53 Days in Mexico: a Financial Breakdown by a Budget Traveller

One of the most common questions new travellers ask is ‘How much money do I need to have?’. So I thought I’d outline how much my teen and I spent to live in the Riviera side of Mexico for 53 days. We are extreme budget travellers, so you may not live for as cheap as we did, but it should give you an idea of what is possible if you are conscious about how you spend money. We often did not have a fridge or kitchen, so many of our meals were from food carts. And we shared accommodation

This breakdown is as accurate as I can be, and should give you an idea of how much living in Mexico might cost. All rates are in CAD, converting pesos using an average of $12.50 pesos to the dollar.

Flights:
(2 adults-Edmonton, AB to Cancun, and Cancun to Fort Lauderdale)

Accommodation:    97 + 100 +  — + (5000 pesos) + (560 pesos)
(3 nights in Cancun, 3 nights in Puerto Morelos, 2 nights in Valladoid, and the rest in Playa Del Carmen)
