I had intended to make this list in reference to our second month on the road, but we were just so darn busy! Turns out road-tripping and seeing the world is just too much fun to spend time writing! So, now I’m writing this at the end of our trip.
After 82 days on the road, here’s a few of the things we’ve learned…
People drive fast in Louisiana. But they drive REALLY FAST in California!!
Driving 80mph (130kmph) on a Texas interstate is relaxing. Driving 60mph (100kmph) in Cali is stressful
There are no mosquitoes in the swamp. This is because there is no still water, which is what mosquitoes need to reproduce. Water is constantly moving in a swamp
Alligators grow REALLY slow. The one we held was about 3 years old, and only 18″ long!
Sleeping in the car gets more comfortable, and easier, the more we do it. After a couple uncomfortable sleeps in a bed, we look forward to the car.
A sunset over the ocean is every bit as beautiful as we imagined
3 months go REALLY fast
We LOVE this lifestyle!!!
Seen one battleship or war ship/submarine, you’ve pretty much seen them all
Resort life is an AWESOME splurge to break up the constant go-go of life on the road
Sometimes, you just have to go for it and eat the cinnamon bun for breakfast
‘It’s my birthday’ gets you free dessert at most restaurants, and they never ask what date is your birthday 😉
Southerners are almost as polite as Canadians, except their accent makes them sound even nicer
There are factory tours everywhere, and they are AWESOME!! Google is the easiest way to find them, or this website. Here’s the ones we’ve done
Jelly Belly’s take a week to make. And they smell delicious while in production! (Unless you’re part of the Bamboozled production team)
The Boeing production building is the largest building in the world. You can fit all of Disneyland inside, and you’ll STILL have 18 acres left empty. Absolutely amazing!!
Crossing 3 time zones in less than a week makes for a very confusing mental shift when calling family
We still have WAY too much stuff
Our car is a beast!!! 25,000km in 82 days, and NO issues!
Stickers are made by layering each colour over another.
When you tell the people at Universal Studios that it’s your brithday, they give you a pin to wear. And EVERY crew member will stop you to say happy birthday!
California is NOT car-camping friendly
People are generally nice, and quick to stop to see if they can help when they think you live in your car with your child..
I'm a former teen mom, a career chef and an entrepreneur with a life-long wanderlust. My son and I recently became unschoolers and world-schoolers! This means we travel full-time and use our real-life experiences as a basis for his education. It's a blast, and we're both learning so much as we go!
