We finally hit ‘the south’ when we arrived in Charleston, South Carolina! The accents, the attitude, the weather and the food all just embody everything I’ve ever imagined the South to be. Everyone is so friendly, the weather is summer-like, even in mid-October, and everywhere we go just smells amazing! We only spent a couple days here,
Our first day in Charleston was a pretty relaxed one. We found the iconic
Market Street, and wandered through the permanent City Market there. It’s HUGE! Easily 250 vendors that set up and tear down each day, on permanent tables and booths. From someone who has worked markets for years, it was certainly impressive to set the set up of this one.
We spent a few hours wandering around Market Street and King Street, 2 intersecting streets near the Market Street Market. They’re known for neat shops, touristy souvenirs, antiques and TONS of food choices. The best was definitely the peanut store.. It’s a store filled entirely with (you guessed it) peanuts! Tons of flavours, and TONS of samples, and we obviously had to try them all! (Except the crab ones. There’s nothing appealing about crab flavoured peanuts.)

There was at least 4 different candy shops on these streets, and we went into EVERY SINGLE ONE. Know what southerners do right? Pralines. And free samples. If you’ve never had a fresh-made southern praline, you need to find a way to make that happen! Here’s some pics to make you hungry
One of the coolest things about Charleston was the architecture. Such neat buildings and houses! Walking through sidestreets downtown I loved the little courtyards behind every row house. And trees EVERYWHERE!
